Life is full of lessons, we've had this conversation before haven't we. Tonight I decided to share with you the 2018 has taught me. For a few reasons one for my own personal healing and gratitude and two in hopes you can see your year for all its gifts and lessons as well.
So here they are, my five lessons of the year. Yes there were of course more than five things I've learn't so lets call these my top five.
1- Not everyone is going to like you. But Someone will.
Sometimes people don't get me. They don't understand my humor or they think I'm a little loud. They see my self preservation as selfish or they simply don't like me. 2018 taught me that is O.K. It's more about them than it is me.
2- Communication is EVERYTHING.
Say what you mean and how you feel. As Shrek said it's better out than in. I have a tendency to shut down when I am processing something. It's always been my way. I'm quite comfortable with turning inward. This year I have made a conscious effort to improve communication. Weather is audio messaging friends, emails, phone calls or face to face. I say what I think even when I am still processing something. You don't need to have all the answers in the moment. But you do need to communicate.
3- If it feels off, it's because it is.
I ignored my gut this year for about 12 weeks. Well I didn't ignore it, but I kind of pushed through it whilst saying to people "Something doesn't feel quite right". Epic mistake. To the point that the universe had to put a stop to it by putting its very large foot down. I totally see it was meant to be that way, but if I had tapped into my intuition further I could of protected myself and my family from a lot of heart ache. Lesson learn't. I now run on 100% intuition.
4- Everyone has a patch in their quilt that's darker than the others.
Since working with the Mumpreneur on Fire Authors I have realised that everyone has a part of their story that is dark, a patch in their quilt that stands out from all the others, a pivotal moment where everything changed and you became a different person. Some chose to hide their darker times. Not me, I wear mine now like a patch on my arm. It made me stronger, braver and a hell of a lot kinder. 2018 taught me everyone has a story, everyone. You really have no clue what other people are battling with or going through until you take the time to listen and find out.
5- No one is going to save you.
Yes the universe has your back, yes your joy mate will support you on your journey. But no one is going to save you. No one is going to save you. They will pull you from the ruins, but the saving that's for you to do yourself. You must dust yourself off and get your ass back in the race. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow. But when you feel ready you must be your own super hero.
I never like those posts where they say good riddance to a year, because I know there are people wishing for more time on this earth. So lets say thank you 2018. Even if she chewed you up and spat you out. She made you stronger, she brought you closer and she made you the amazing person you are right now.
To 2019 be kind to us, we welcome you with open arms and excitement for the adventures you have to offer.
Happy New Year Gang.
I am so honored to share this journey with you.
